I have had two individuals work under me who had been incarcerated before applying, one told me during the interview and the other did not.
The one who did not hide anything was in for theft, I gave him a chance anyway. Although I had a hard time trusting him from day one.
The second employee told me nothing about his prison time for two weeks, by then I allready liked him as an employee and was shocked for a only few minutes.
I don't think that either employees employment was hurt by me knowing or not knowing. Although I am not sure that I am willing to constantly keep an eye on someone who has stolen before. They may have paid their due and served their time but I can't help wonder if they will do it again.
